Inspired to Care, Moved to Act.
Not only is this a fundraising walk it will be powerful and reflective experience that will stay with you for a lifetime.
Event Overview
Walk in the Spirit (WITS), also known as the Everald Walk, is a nationwide charity initiative organised by Dorcas ACTS. More than just a fundraising walk, WITS is a powerful opportunity to bring communities together, reflect on what matters most and turn compassion into meaningful action.
The inaugural event took place on 5 October 2026, featuring a flagship 11 km walk around Uluru, led by philanthropists Everald and Helen Compton in celebration of Everald’s 95th birthday. Alongside the Uluru walk, four local community walks brought people together across Australia. Thanks to the generosity of walkers, donors, sponsors and volunteers, the inaugural event raised more than $130,000 for Dorcas ACTS.
As an annual event, Walk in the Spirit aims to grow this movement of generosity and community spirit, bringing more people together each year to walk, volunteer and fundraise for a meaningful cause. Future events are listed further down on this page.
WITS is designed to be inclusive, with walking options of 3 km, 5 km and 11 km. Individuals, families, workplaces and community groups can participate in a flagship walk or organise or join a local neighbourhood walk, making it easy for people across Australia to get involved.
Walking together to support people in crisis
Every step taken and every donation made helps support the work of Dorcas ACTS, a 100% volunteer-run charity providing emergency financial assistance to individuals and families experiencing crisis anywhere in Australia. This may include people affected by natural disasters such as fires, floods and droughts, as well as those facing domestic violence and other challenging circumstances.
WITS Walkers are encouraged to set a personal fundraising goal and invite family, friends, colleagues and community members to sponsor their walk. Donors are asked to nominate the walker they are supporting when making a donation.
By bringing people together through walking, fundraising and volunteering, Walk in the Spirit helps turn generosity into practical support for those who need it most.
Get involved as a WITS Walker or volunteer and be part of something meaningful. Every step can make a difference.
